City Year unites young people of all backgrounds for a year of full-time service, giving them the skills and opportunities to change the world. As tutors, mentors, and role models, these young leaders make a difference in the lives of children and transform schools and neighborhoods.
- 53 Corps Members serve on six teams
- Five teams serve in Manchester elementary schools and the Young Heroes Team serves youth all over southern New Hampshire
The six teams serve in one of two capacities:
School-Based Service:
The City Year Whole School, Whole Child service model is a unique partnership with schools that engages diverse teams of corps members in service to help students stay in school and stay on track to graduate and succeed. Each team focuses on providing students with support in the ABCs—attendance, behavior, and coursework. This support is achieved through one-on-one and group tutoring, mentoring, overall classroom support, and after school programs that help create an improved learning environment.
Young Heroes:
The Young Heroes program is a Saturday service learning program that provides middle school students with structured, team-based opportunity to perform community service. Ultimately, the Young Heroes program aims to educate middle school students on important social issues and give them the chance to positively impact their communities, thus encouraging them to become active citizens. This program is based on a concept central to City Year, that being: Young people can make a difference.
